Nothing to see here... Move along...

Kinja'd!!!

Last night I sent a message to the kids asking them to come see me this weekend. Sunday happens to be my sister’s birthday, so it’s a good excuse to get them here. I did put a little caveat on it though, that the youngest needed to come stay with me for a bit and that they should come in one car, “to help teach her stick shift.”

Previous editions are all here :

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Older daughter drives a Mini Cooper with a 6-speed, and I’ve been on them both that the younger one needs to learn how to drive stick, so none of this is out of character for me.

This morning they read the message, and apparently the deadbeat boyfriend was there. How or why he was there has not yet been answered to my satisfaction, but apparently his response was, “wow, road trip”. The daughter is under some impression that he’s invited along. Why would I invite this idiot to my sister’s birthday?

The kids had already started working on a plan to come to my house, but I wanted to head some of this nonsense off at the pass. I sent a follow up note to only the older daughter to clarify, “ I understand from your mom that Nick believes he is invited. Please let him know that is not the case. I don’t want him here. My house, my call. Daughters only. ”

you know... the stereo type.. of the angry dad with the bat

(every dad likes to pretend its really true.. but ya gotta be pretty unhinged to believe that)

tempting tho... innit?

It’s not that he isn’t welcome, it’s that you (I) wanted this to be just for your ( my) daughters. I do think if you see somebody for this, as your daughter does, you’ll be better able to address these situations.

It’s possible to waste too much mental and physical effort dealing with this type of situation instead of just facing it when given the chance to actually effect a consequential and beneficial outcome realizing the ends you pursue.

yeah, very tempting. The ex is supposed to be talking to his dad about why he was kicked out of the house and is living on the street.

I just know that if he shows up I’m giving him a choice of getting on a greyhound bus back to Houston, or going to the Austin homeless shelter. He’s not staying in my house.

quite true. I’m just trying to not force the situation by laying out the rules up front. I have never said a thing about dudes dating my daughters before this one. In general I just hope that their mother and I taught them well enough that they can make sound choices in who they choose to spend time with, but in this case exceptions need to be made.

from that entry and description, you may very well be right. I don’t really know for certain what she is since I got her from th e local shelter. I’ve always just considered her a good looking mutt.

As the dad of two young daughters (3 and 5), I'm getting the urge to punch this guy for you. I'm mature enough that I wouldn't do that, but the urge ... It's real.

In general, if the daughter is dating the boyfriend, it’s understandable that she’d assume that her boyfriend being invited is implied. (I realize that your particular situation is not typical though).

If this dude is never going to be welcome in your house again, you might need to spell that out to them both.

This is the urge girls get to rescue and heal a wounded soul, the rebel and outcast that society has abandoned, but that only they can see and heal with enough love.

Mostly they ditch the bum when his wounded soul betrays them, like by cheating on them.

Good luck.  As the father of a daughter, I’m rooting for you. And happy birthday.

Oh he’s never been to my house. My dog doesn’t like noisy people or people who move around too much, she tends to treat them like ca ttle and herd them by nipping at their legs. She would HATE him. He’s not welcome here as much for her sake as anything.
